Colonel Joed I. Carbonell

Col Joed I. Carbonell is the Commander of the 179th Cyberspace Operations Group, Mansfield ANGB, Ohio. The group presents combat ready airmen in support of the Air Superiority Mission.

 

Col Carbonell received his commission in 2000 through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Maryland. A career cyberspace operations and intelligence officer he has conducted intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance at the strategic, operational, and tactical levels of war throughout the Central and Special Operations Command areas of responsibility and cyberspace operations as part of the Cyber National Mission Force. Col Carbonell has commanded at the squadron and wing levels and his staff assignments include service at the National Security Agency, U.S. Special Operations Command, the National Guard Bureau, and the Cyber National Mission Force. He has deployed in support of U.S. and Coalition operations in the Middle East for Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM and is a joint qualified officer.

 

Before returning to active duty, Colonel Carbonell served within the National Security Agency as a civilian. He served as a division chief and technical director leading two major programs for the Director and Director of National Intelligence and deployed as the agency’s technical director. Prior to his current position, Col Carbonell served as the Director of Operations, Cyber National Mission Force, Fort George G. Meade, MD.
